A new era of beauty is upon us. For the Spring/Summer 2023 season, a melange of beauty looks captured the attention of fans around the world. Skin minimalism fronts most of the shows. Meanwhile, side parts are making a resurgence on Christian Siriano and Tommy Hilfiger’s runway. Graphic makeup, bold bubble, gradient shadows, smokey look, and fluorescent liners defined the future of eye makeup. Elsewhere, lip rings, extreme embellishments and rhinestones became this year’s favorite beauty accents.
S/S23 is overflowing with fashion and beauty inspo. Below, we rounded out some of the standout beauty looks that we’ve spotted from this season.
A radiant, hydrated, healthy-looking base dominates this season’s beauty look. Minimally enhanced with swishes of bronzer or blush, it’s still lauded as one of the most coveted skin trends. A good example of this is Bottega Venetta’s SS23 where the show embraced a barely-there makeup look. Proenza Schouler, on the other hand, leaned toward a dewy, glass-skin theme for its models.
Shimmer shadows, bold eye makeup, and statement lips received a full editorial treatment this season. The otherworldly beauty looks can be spotted in shows like GCDS which featured a range of punchy eye looks. A notable mention also includes Alice and Olivia who debuted a bold bubble eye look on the runway. The label takes a nod to this Asian makeup trend and gave it a playful twist.
Bleached Brow Look
The future of brows might be no brows at all. Bleached brows made a brave comeback this season and are emphasized on labels like Diesel, Molly Goddard, and Han Kjobenhavn. Popular personalities that donned this brow trend are Mia Goth, Kendall Jenner, Julia Fox and Bella Hadid. To test out this look, you can start by coating your brow hair with a concealer that is a shade lighter than your complexion.
This season would not be complete without a series of statement-making detailings. Prada embraced maximalism with a display of long, thick eyelashes that fanned over the model’s eyes. Designer labels like Halpern and KWK showcased a range of bold eye makeup that is embellished with shimmer and rhinestones. Mark Fast presented an extreme play with glitters and even covered his model’s entire face with it. Another notable mention includes Peter Do’s glittered eyebrows and Bora Aksu’s frosted eyelashes.
Old Hollywood Glam
Old Hollywood glam is making a resurgence this SS23. Soft, smoky shadows are seen in shows like Pat Bo. Christian Siriano’s runway presented an elegant combination of cherry lips, flicked eyeliner and dewy skin. For the hair, stylist Lacy Redway created a modern take on the iconic Aubrey Hepburn bun, featuring a deep side part and slicked-down side bangs.
A draped look made an appearance on quite a few runways. It usually refers to the old-school blushing technique where you sculpt and define your features with a soft blush. For this season, draping is also interpreted in more ways than one. Label Act No. 1, leaned into a more maximalist approach by extending the blush to the eye area. Meanwhile, Etro showcased a playful approach by combining two tones to create the drape look.
Another detail worth mentioning are the beauty accents. To name one, Marrisa Wilson’s show debuted beaded braids that are designed by Kien Hoang. Rhinestones are also making a moment, appearing on Deus Ex Machina’s showcase at Harlem Fashion Row’s Runway Show. Elsewhere, London-based labels like Poster Girl and KNWLS embraced its city’s grunge fashion history and adapted facial piercings to its looks.
